In association with the National Theatre Studio
Climate Refugees The Opera (w/t) is a new piece of musical theatre specially written to be performed across and between three continents in real time. Collaborating with the communities of each city, Jonathan Dove will compose and Alasdair Middleton will write the libretto to be simultaneously performed in Rio, London and Cape Town.
Across the world, mainly in the poorest areas, the impact of the changing climate is forcing people to leave their homes. This opera tells their stories. During the course of the opera, community will sing to community, as people learn about each other, share their common experiences and discover that their singing can be heard on the other side of the world.

Ahead of Climate Refugees The Opera (w/t) Somerset House will present an exhibition to highlight the plight of communities in the UK and abroad affected by climate change, in particular flooding.
Drowning World features work by leading contemporary photographer and film maker Gideon Mendel. As part of a global long-term project, Mendel visited countries around the world subjected to devastating large-scale flooding, including Haiti, India, Pakistan, Australia, Thailand and the UK, with his unique portraits of flood victims taken within the context of their environmental devastation making up the exhibition. Drowning World has been conceived in collaboration with World Stages London, which unites eight leading London theatres to each tell a story from around the world in a landmark celebration of our cosmopolitan capital.
